Does this sound familiar?

You’ve been holding it together for a long time.

From the outside, things may look okay. Inside, it’s a different story.

  • You’re going through the motions, but you don’t feel like you’re really living.
  • Memories, nightmares or a constant sense of dread keep pulling you back down.
  • Drinking or using used to take the edge off. Now it’s become its own problem.
  • You carry shame you’ve never said out loud to anyone.
  • Somewhere along the way, you lost track of who you really are.

Under the fog

Trauma and shame can settle over a life like fog.

It covers who you are, until even you can’t see yourself clearly. But the fog isn’t you. Underneath it, the person you truly are is still there.

Why “True Arc”

Therapy clears the path back to you.

In every good story, a character moves through hardship toward who they were meant to be. Real life works the same way. Trauma, addiction and what happened in childhood can pull us off course, but they don’t get the final word.

Beneath the symptoms is someone whole, valuable and worth knowing. Together, we lift what’s been covering that person, so you can step back onto your true arc.

Ashley Craddock, PhD

Meet your psychologist

Hi, I’m Dr. Ashley Craddock.

I started True Arc because I’ve seen what happens when people get care that truly fits. Before private practice, I served as an active duty psychologist working primarily with Marines, and I’ve spent years caring for veterans. Military or not, you’ll get the same directness, warmth and respect.

I believe there’s a beautiful, valuable person inside each of us. My job is to help you find your way back to yours.

Common questions

Does therapy by video really work?

For many people, yes. During the COVID-19 pandemic, a large body of research compared telehealth with in-person therapy. Overall, it found that treatment delivered by telehealth appears to be as effective as the same treatment delivered in person. People choose or need virtual care for many different reasons. Whatever yours is, we’re glad you’re here and ready to help.

What happens in the free consultation?

It’s a brief phone call. You share a little about what’s going on, ask any questions about how I work, fees or scheduling, and we decide together whether we’re a good fit. There’s zero pressure to commit.

What does “evidence-based” mean, what do all these acronyms (CBT, CPT, PE) stand for, and why should I care?

You may see it called “evidence-based care” or “evidence-based treatment.” Either way, it means the treatment for your condition is backed by scientific studies showing that symptoms improved. The acronyms are names of specific evidence-based treatments for specific conditions. For example, if you have PTSD, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE) have been shown to reduce PTSD symptoms. Most importantly, what you invest in therapy, financially and emotionally, should be worth that investment. Your time is valuable.

Is what I share confidential?

Absolutely, with a few exceptions required by California law, including a serious risk of harm to yourself or someone else, or suspected abuse of a child, elder or dependent adult. We’ll go over these in detail before we begin.

Do you take insurance?

I’m an out-of-network provider. I can give you a superbill to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement, and a sliding scale is available. See fees.

How long will therapy take?

It depends on your treatment goals. Most treatments are structured and time-limited. Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), for example, typically takes about 12 to 14 sessions. Other work can be more open-ended. We’ll talk about what to expect early on.

Do I need to be a Veteran?

Not at all. I work with individuals across California from every walk of life. My military experience is one part of my background, not a requirement for working together.
